Fully anechoic chamber, Harbke
The fully anechoic chamber in Harbke provides a spacious measurement environment for development-stage EMC investigations. The frequency range extends up to 10 GHz and the maximum antenna distance is 3 m.

- Service

- Harbke, Saxony-Anhalt
- Frequency range
- up to 10 GHz
Technical data sheet
Our two test environments together form the EMC capability portfolio of EMC Labs. The appropriate environment and test setup depend on the test method, device under test, supply requirements, setup and engineering question.
This page describes the equipment in Harbke. The shared capability portfolio is set out under Two test environments, one capability portfolio.
- Frequency range
- up to 10 GHz
- Antenna distance
- up to 3 m
- Chamber dimensions
- 4 × 4 × 8 m (H × W × L)
- DC supply
- 0–60 V, up to 10 A
- AC supply
- three-phase, up to 32 A
- Apparent power
- approximately 22 kVA
The figure of 4 × 4 × 8 m describes the internal dimensions of the chamber, not the maximum size of the device under test. The size that can actually be accommodated depends on the setup, the cabling, the peripherals and the measurement distances required, and is agreed on a project-by-project basis.
We agree the test scope and the depth of assessment per project. If a question is a better fit for the other site, we say so – see Shielded chamber, Meine.

Typical use cases
- A first assessment of a prototype against the applicable limits
- Narrowing down critical frequency ranges ahead of an external test
- Comparative measurements before and after an optimisation measure
- Investigations on large devices that do not fit on a bench setup
Limits of the equipment
- The antenna distance is up to 3 m; measurements at a 10 m distance are not possible.
- The chamber dimensions are not a commitment on device size – the size that can be accommodated depends on the setup and is agreed per project.
- We measure at the pre-compliance stage. These are not accredited tests.
How a measurement day runs
Four steps, repeated as often as the development work needs. You are welcome to be there all day.
- 1
Arrive and set up
You bring the device, its peripherals and its power supply. We set up together and record the setup with photos, so the measurement stays traceable later on.
- 2
First measurement
We measure the agreed scope and place the values against the relevant limits. You watch the curves as they appear.
- 3
Narrow it down
If something stands out, we change the setup deliberately: reroute a cable, insert a filter, add shielding. That turns a measured value into a cause.
- 4
Re-measure
We re-measure the effect of a change under the same conditions. You leave with documented values and concrete next steps.
What to bring
- The device with its peripherals, loads and counterparts
- The power supply as it looks in actual use
- The operating states you want measured
- Any anomalies you know of and existing measurement reports
The checklist sets this out in detail: Preparing your device for an EMC measurement.
Getting here and delivery
- By car
- The B 245a between Helmstedt and Halberstadt runs through Harbke. The nearest motorway exit is Marienborn/Helmstedt on the A 2.
- Parking
- We have our own parking spaces on site.
- Delivery
- Large and heavy devices can be delivered at ground level – no stairs, no transfer.
- By train
- The nearest station is Marienborn on the Braunschweig–Magdeburg line.
- Before you arrive
- Please give us a quick call so someone is waiting for you at the test bench.

Frequently asked questions about Harbke
- Can I be there during the measurement?
- Yes. You are welcome to be there throughout the day and watch the values as they appear. Someone who knows the device can switch operating states directly, which saves time.
- What happens if a measurement stands out?
- We narrow down the cause as far as the setup allows: scan the near field, reroute cables, try measures out and re-measure their effect.
- Do I get an accredited test report?
- No. Our measurements are pre-compliance and not accredited. They serve to spot anomalies early and to verify measures before a possible external test.
- How large can the device under test be?
- The chamber measures 4 × 4 × 8 m internally (height × width × length). That is not the maximum device size – it depends on the setup and is agreed per project. Large devices can be delivered at ground level.
